I have to admit that I have mixed feelings about Alessandro Michele’s spring/summer 2017 menswear collection for Gucci. I certainly love his style and aesthetic, but on the other hand it seems that this spring/summer 2017 collection is not an evolution of this aesthetic. It seems a bit safe. It’s undeniable the fact that there are some fabulous pieces in the new offering, and I’m pretty sure we’ll see them on countless fashion editorials, but I’m here, asking me if this is enough. I love the romantic vibe, the Japanese-inspired prints, the androgynous elements and the dandyish touches, but it seems to me like something we already know. I’m perfectly aware about the fact that building up a new identity for such a legendary fashion house is hard and it requires time, but I’d like to a further step in a new direction.
